Tree Removal & Trimming in Kensington, MD
Kensington's small-town, antique-district character comes with a mature tree canopy to match — and its location right against Rock Creek Park means a lot of properties here share a wooded buffer with parkland.
Kensington, Maryland
Tree removal in Kensington
Much like its neighbor Chevy Chase, Kensington's older blocks carry a lot of legacy shade trees that residents want to keep standing as long as it's safe to do so — which means our Kensington estimates often include a structural assessment and a preservation option alongside the removal quote.
Being right against Rock Creek Park adds a wrinkle most of the county doesn't deal with as much: deer pressure on young plantings, more shade-tolerant understory species, and the occasional park-adjacent tree that technically isn't on the homeowner's property but still threatens it.
Local Species
Trees common in Kensington
A quick look at what we run into most often on Kensington properties, and why it matters for the work we do.
American Beech
Thrives in Kensington's shadier, park-adjacent yards — shallow-rooted and shade-tolerant, which makes it common in the understory near Rock Creek's wooded buffer.
White Oak
A fixture of Kensington's older residential streets, much like neighboring Chevy Chase — long-lived and generally worth preserving when structurally sound.
Flowering Dogwood
A smaller native understory tree common in Kensington's older, shadier yards — appreciated for spring bloom, but prone to stress and dieback as surrounding canopy ages.
Local Context
What makes Kensington different
Rock Creek Park buffer
Properties backing onto parkland deal with shade-tolerant understory species and occasional hazards from trees technically outside the property line.
Small-town preservation mindset
Like Chevy Chase, Kensington residents often lead with 'can we save it' rather than jumping straight to removal.
Mature, shaded yards
Dense canopy and shade-loving understory trees mean different care needs than the sunnier, newer parts of the county.
